Swing Gang Jazz lab. Collaboration

There is music club called “Jazz-ken” which is Swing Gang Jazz laboratory in Kanda University of International Studies. This is the biggest music club in KUIS, as many of you know about it. Music genres are in lots of varieties; mostly Rock music and Jazz music, also there are Japanese music. I am not going to write about what “Jazz-ken” do in their activities (Don’ t you think it is easy to imagine?), but I will report about their collaboration between STEP-IN, which is the biggest dance club in KUIS.

At Hamakaze-Festival, there is the collaboration unit, called “JAZZEP”. “JAZZEP” is mintage word which both of Jazz and STEP-IN. I asked to one of my friend about this collaboration.

*This collaboration is continuing for a long time, what is the tradition of this collaboration?

“It still continuing the collaboration between STEP-IN from three years ago. It was different name, but since last year, we changed name to JAZZEP, core member is junior student.”

*What is the new thing this year’s collaboration innovates?

“In the past time, some member of Jazz-ken took part in dance, but this year, one of the STEP-IN member involved in singing.”

*About this collaboration, it is the integration of music and dance, what was the difficulty of this fusion?

“Both of us has individual activities, so it was hard to make time to meet and practice together. It was difficult to much music that we both like to action. Also the difference of what both need in performance made the gap of expressions; the meeting was also tough part to meet both needs.”

There is lots of test and fault to figure out what is this collaboration’s best appearance for the Hamakaze-Festival. I think the collaboration was fantastic that mach audience seemed enjoyed their performance. I hope that many clubs do collaborations with different clubs.
