The meaning of collaboration

I had a chance to ask my friend in Swing Gang Jazz laboratory, about the meaning of collaboration when I asked him about his club’s collaboration with STEP-IN (there is an article of this topic before). I am thinking that there are many clubs in KUIS, but all of the clubs works in individual activity. Why don’t they collaborate more? I was simply imagine to all cultural club unite and make one group as new type of entertainment appearance. So I was asked to him, the meaning of collaboration. Here are some questions I asked to him.

*What things you want to express to audience?

“I would like audience to know our activities by collaboration event. Anyway, it is fortunate that audience figure out we are doing activities in joyful.”

*There is lots of music clubs and oversea cultural clubs, is there any hope to unite these clubs in one activity group?

“I think it is difficult to unite all. However, for example it is unique to express varieties of collaboration activities for a week at central court of forth building. The basic meaning of collaboration is to communicate between clubs activities. If it is happen, cohesions of clubs get strong more than now, and that leads to motivate individual activities. Of cause, project must to be enjoyment for the audience at first. At least, I hope that many clubs will do collaboration offensively, and I would like to take part in as one member of Swing Gang Jazz laboratory.”

In these days, I am thinking that everything is connecting to each other. Language, music, dance, charity, anyway, everything is connecting to express ourselves by doing your specialized skills. That specialized skill can be anything. I hope many things connect to you, “and the world will live as one”. What I meant in here is, by connecting many things is can be the seeds of friendship, and peace.

What do you think about this?

KUIS Media Station

Do you listen to the radio, recently? Less young people listen to it, and more people watch TV or use the Internet. In Japan, however, the radio was the biggest media about 30 years ago. It is KUIS Media Station that broadcasts various radio programs on the Internet. KUIS Media Station is composed by more than 10 students, and some teachers help us.

What do we do in KUIS Media Station? As it was mentioned before, we make radio programs. We do plan what topic we broadcast about, what it is for, and who the main listeners are. Based on the plan, we gather information about the topic; interview people, search on the Internet, and use other media tools. Then, after detail preparation, we record radio programs. We also make the web page to put radio programs, and show pictures to give the listeners visual information. In order to have a lot of people know the existence of KUIS Media Station, effective advertisements are needed. “What words are people attracted by?” “Which construction is easy to see?” We’re carefully considered how we can create catchy advertisements. Red posters, the complete works, are put on the window at several places in KUIS.

We create new things from zero, so it is really tough. We failed again and again. We recreate works to make the best one. But we make things that we like cooperating each other. We drive for being a bridge the gap between Japan and foreign countries by informing information through the radio and the Internet. We, KUIS Media Station, are pioneer of the Internet radio in KUIS!

Swing Gang Jazz lab. Collaboration

There is music club called “Jazz-ken” which is Swing Gang Jazz laboratory in Kanda University of International Studies. This is the biggest music club in KUIS, as many of you know about it. Music genres are in lots of varieties; mostly Rock music and Jazz music, also there are Japanese music. I am not going to write about what “Jazz-ken” do in their activities (Don’ t you think it is easy to imagine?), but I will report about their collaboration between STEP-IN, which is the biggest dance club in KUIS.

At Hamakaze-Festival, there is the collaboration unit, called “JAZZEP”. “JAZZEP” is mintage word which both of Jazz and STEP-IN. I asked to one of my friend about this collaboration.

*This collaboration is continuing for a long time, what is the tradition of this collaboration?

“It still continuing the collaboration between STEP-IN from three years ago. It was different name, but since last year, we changed name to JAZZEP, core member is junior student.”

*What is the new thing this year’s collaboration innovates?

“In the past time, some member of Jazz-ken took part in dance, but this year, one of the STEP-IN member involved in singing.”

*About this collaboration, it is the integration of music and dance, what was the difficulty of this fusion?

“Both of us has individual activities, so it was hard to make time to meet and practice together. It was difficult to much music that we both like to action. Also the difference of what both need in performance made the gap of expressions; the meeting was also tough part to meet both needs.”

There is lots of test and fault to figure out what is this collaboration’s best appearance for the Hamakaze-Festival. I think the collaboration was fantastic that mach audience seemed enjoyed their performance. I hope that many clubs do collaborations with different clubs.
